On Saturday night, at the prestigious New Zealand L’Oréal Colour Trophy Awards, Servilles cleaned up yet again with their third consecutive New Zealand Hairdresser of the year title. Servilles also took out Hairdresser of the Year runner-up and Salon of the Year.
Armie Aninion-Avillanosa of Servilles Takapuna won the Supreme Award – NZ Hairdresser of the Year. Caleb Alex (Servilles Newmarket) won in 2008 and Jayne Thomas (Servilles Newmarket) in 2006. The 2010 event was held off until 2011.
In addition, Armie won the Fashion Magazine award, sponsored by MiNDFOOD and received a Highly Commended for her Mens Colour Award entry, Servilles Academy trained Armie joined Servilles Takapuna in 2008 and has been a key member of the Hair Team for New Zealand’s Next Top Model, cycles one and two. So much success in such a few years, it’s very evident this stylist is destined for big things.
In a first for the the Colour Trophy awards, Janic Leech of Servilles Albany was named runner-up, no other hair salon brand in New Zealand has taken out both Hairdresser of the Year and runner-up!
Servilles Albany won the Salon of the Year award, the young team of Sarah Anwar, Sherusha Cumming, Louise Sievewright and Amy Phengsvath were all trained at Servilles Academy and bet out some of the biggest names in the industry for this award.
Awarded New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year, Armie impressed the panel of esteemed judges, stylists from Haute Coiffure Française in Paris, with her winning hairstyle, Armie wanted to take a more natural approach to her very on-trend pixie cut by creating deeper roots and lighter ends for the beautiful platinum blonde infused with pastel coppers.
Her gorgeous winning model was Laura Scaife, runner-up in the first season of New Zealand’s Next Top Model, who got the chance to take finally take first place this time in a different kind of competition.
The judges were looking for a unified concept – one that brought together colour, cut, style, make-up, fashion and photography, with a focus on the hair and hair colour.
Armie on winning this coveted award, “I am so excited and honored to receive this amazing award. I have to give huge credit to Paul Serville who is always inspiring and motivating me as well as the training I received at Servilles Academy, it’s hard work but if you keep going and never give up it’s so worth it!”
Servilles proudly had 10 of the 22 finalists in the four main categories. The supreme award, New Zealand Hairdresser of the Year 2011: Armie Aninion; Terri Chin, Servilles Newmarket; Jacqui Anderson, Servilles Mission Bay; Janic Leech, Servilles Albany. The Next Generation award: Lisa Panther and Sharn Leathern, both Servilles Newmarket. The Men’s Colour award: previous winner of this award in 2005 Olivia Noble, Servilles Newmarket; Kat Brandon, Servilles Mission Bay. The Salon of the Year award: Servilles Newmarket and Servilles Albany and a further two finalists not currently working at Servilles were also Servilles Academy trained.

These outstanding award wins just add to Servilles busy yet exciting past 12 months, in August last year the Rt Hon, Helen Clark opened the new Servilles premises on Queen Street, taking over 3 floors, this is home to Serville Academy and Servilles Head Office and in March last year, with over 40 years in the industry Paul Serville was inducted into the Australasian Hairdressing Hall of Fame and Servilles Academy was named the Australasian Educational Organisation of the year.
As the L’Oréal Colour Trophy Awards are one of New Zealand’s premier hairdressing awards, this is an amazing achievement for the talented stylists and Servilles – a brand which is passionate about training and creating an inspirational work environment.
On the night, a further eight Servilles Stylists were awarded a highly commended.
In previous years, Servilles stylists have won the supreme award five times in total, the Young Colourist of the Year (now called New Generation) award six years in a row, as well as the Men’s Colour award four times. Servilles has also been recognised as New Zealand Salon of the Year numerous times.
